Gallery Direct Interview with PAMELA VOSSELLER

Pamella Vosseller’s watercolors, which are focused on realism, come from a passion deep in her heart. Using delicate brush strokes and bold explosions of color, her work takes the viewer on a journey where they can hear the crunch of crisp dry leaves, smell the freshness of flowers kissed by the morning dew and recall fond memories of places and things that are dear to them.

Q

Was there any key event in your life that made you decide to become an artist?

I have always drawn or painted since I was young, but, the moment I believed I was an artist was when a total stranger wanted to purchase one of my watercolors.

Q

What formal or informal educations have you found most useful?

I'm sitting in a room with other artists, brush and canvas in hand, it's amazing the inspiration, guidance, encouragement, and knowledge I've obtained from my fellow artists.

Q

Often artists work in more than one medium but your work is primarily watercolors. Could you tell us why you choose to work in this medium exclusively?

It's the Water! The color sits still waiting. A touch of water and life Explodes. Water is a force that at times is hard to master. My best work is when I work with the water and not against it.

Q

What experiences have most influenced your choice of subject matter?

A walk in my mother's garden, exploring my grandparents forest, the adventures of meadow & mountain morning hikes, have planted the seeds of Love for this world's little things. That flower or bird and those dancing blades of grass.

Q

As an artist do you think you perceive the world differently from other people?

Not really. Only that I know this BIG World is made up of many little things and its those little things that I try to get the viewer to see, to remember. This world can be evil but, I've seen its beauty and I never want us to forget what could be if we started to really care for each other.

Q

You often talk of your passion for your work. Could you tell us what role you think your emotions play in the creative process?

My work is a release for me. I find myself covering or keeping my emotions in check. Painting provides the avenue for me to show those emotions.

Q

How do you think or want other people to respond to your work?

I've heard them say, OH! Look at that flower, or those leaves, those trees or people. It's their being able to recognize what I have created. When my work moves them to memories I know I've done my gift well.

Q

During your career, who or what has given you the most inspiration?

My Mom. It's wonderful as an artist to have that unconditional love. When the beauty in my work and even in myself is hidden from me my mom never fails to find beauty with her encouraging words.

Q

What is your ideal working atmosphere and is there any time of day you prefer to paint?

In my studio, music playing, setting sun outside the window, the faint sounds of the chickadees, and how about that brilliant glass of red wine. Ah..the nostalgia of the "Artist".

Q

What are your favorite pieces of work you have done and why do you feel so passionate about these pieces?

"Nature's Ornament", hanging in my home. It's a bigger than life, single tomato. The realism causes me to remember it's fresh garden smell the day I picked it. Most inspiring is the shadow. It was a piece that opened the door for me to think bold.

Q

Tell us what you enjoy most about being an artist?

Creating something from nothing. What a blessing to share this gift.
