Artist Statement
Cathay Edwards was born in Victoria, British Columbia in 1961 and currently resides and paints in an outlying community of Victoria on the slopes of Mount Douglas Park. She has a strong heritage with the first nation’s people of Canada being a Metis descendant from Indian Head, Saskatchewan.
Cathay’s artwork is strongly inspired the beauty of British Columbia and her first nation’s heritage. She uses brilliant acrylic colors on canvas to portray a unique impressionistic interpretation of the beauty of Vancouver Island’s landscapes, City of Victoria’s gardens and aboriginal carvings. Cathay's unique refreshing creative style conveys a special relevance to each viewer. Her artwork is always the center of attention and recently her work has been become popular on both the national and international art scene.
