Biography
Born in Brandon, Manitoba, Douglas Willoughby Gemmill is an artist impassioned with a realism art style. His naturalness of ability is highly detailed and his works of art are created primarily in graphite pencil, pen & ink, acrylic, and water colour mediums.
Having had an opportunity to live in British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia, helped only to further his experience of Canada’s vast expanse both geographically and culturally from coast to coast. His art was showcased in the 1996 Manitoba Naturalist Society exhibit, and Manitoba’s first ever "Art Expo 97" at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.
Douglas’s art work has been a part of wildlife conservation fund raising efforts with Ducks Unlimited Canada, and Spruce Woods Provincial Park located in Manitoba. Dignitaries and famous people who have received his work have been the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, Canada’s former Prime Minister, Honourable Jean Chrétien, and former president of the United States of America, William J. Clinton. Robert Bateman at Manitoba Art Expo 97 received one Limited Edition polar bear print that was presented to him by the art exhibits curator.
