Jim Tait, Marine & Landscape Artist
Artist Statement
I have had a lifelong love affair with the sea. Quiet or stormy, bright or gloomy, never still, always restless, the sea has been and always will be my passion, my interest and my inspiration.
Biography
Jim Tait was born on Unst, the most northerly of the Shetland Islands, in 1948. He has had a lifelong interest in ships, the sea and art, and, this being the case, his birthplace could not have been chosen better, as Shetland lies at a major crossroads between the North Sea to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. It is also situated in the middle of the richest fishing grounds in Europe, and now in the middle of the main North Sea/North Atlantic oil exploration zone, so there are a great number of vessels of all kinds working in various capacities around the islands. What a paradise for one who loves things nautical!
Jim attende Grays School of Art in Aberdeen uopon leaving school, and since then has worked in mainly clerical/administrative fields, painting always having been a profitable sideline. After a period of unemployment, Jim decided to take the plunge as a full-time artist, had a website created in 2003, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Jim welcomes commissions, and his website address is www.tait-gallery.co.uk.
