Artist Statement
The frailty and beauty of flowers constantly intrigue me. I look at them as objects that represent my emotions or an idea for my subject. Each flowers in the pieces are chosen for either to express my personal emotion or depict my private thoughts in the spiritual and the emotional topics.
Biography
Mae Jeon was born in Seoul, Korea. She received a BS and MFA in graphic and advertising design from Hong-Ik University in Seoul. Mae has been in the design profession over 25 years. Her graphic design career began in Tokyo, Japan and continued work for design in Seoul, Korea. She practiced painting while working as a designer. Jeon has had solo exhibitions in Seoul and Tokyo in 1971 and 1972. In 1977, she moved to New York and continued working as a graphic designer. In 1992 She was introduced to use of computer for design work. In 2000, she started use computer to make her floral fine art piece. Then she has begun to pursue her career as digital fine artist. She has created her digital art incorporating with floral subjects in the relationship of digital technology. She uses the frailty of flowers to depict the delicacy of emotions. Her artwork has been exhibited in numerous solo, group and juried shows in New York City, California, Florida and Seoul, Korea. In 2005, Jeon has participated in Florence Biennale in Italy. Her work has been featured in the several art publications in the US and Europe.
