Artist Statement
When I paint, I seldom have anything in mind. I just paint what I feel and what appeals to me. Everything hinges on my mood. All the sights and sounds around me, and it all just flows. It is very much a gut feeling, while at the same time I am following my heart.
I like to paint with oils, and the length of time one has to work before drying is nice. But, I can be a little impatient and prefer the faster drying paints. Acrylics and enamels work best for me. I also like the amount of texture you can get with acrylic straight from the tube and a pallet knife, and the almost honey like flow and consistency of enamel is very nice.
When I work, I turn on some music, take it all in, and go with it.
Biography
Micah W. Guenther has never had any formal training in art, and is mostly self taught. He had the usual art classes in high school and one semester at a community college.
He draws most of his ideas on technique and use of material from fellow artists. He also picks up ideas on technique from books and magazines. He is influenced by a number of well known artists, while trying to maintain his own style.
Micah lived and worked in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, as a chef for six years, in Dallas, TX for nine months prior to that, and just recently moved home to Kansas. His latest project is cleaning up his old barn out back which he plans to convert into his personal art studio.
Micah was born August 11, 1964, in Parsons, KS.
