Artist Statement
Originally trained in photography, over the years, sculpture has become the focus of my art work. My interest is in the interaction of abstract forms, whether natural, animal or human. Aluminum is my choice of media but also work with steel, wood and stone. The process of cutting and welding abstract shapes into 3-dimensional forms is very personal and gratifying. To let the work flow through your mind and into the work is pure energy. Working in both media is similar in that light and shadows play an important part in the appearance and feel of the work.
Biography
Graduate of Randolph Technical Institute, in 1971, with a BS in Photography. Two years in commercial photography with Norling Studios in High Point, NC. Ten years working for the North Carolina Zoological Park in their design department, designing and constructing animal exhibits along with model construction as part of the construction plans. Two years with Rock & Waterscapes in commercial design and construction of artificial rock and waterscapes. In 1984 created my own company designing and building artificial rock an waterscapes for private as well as commercial projects. From 1999 through 2006, I was in residential construction but found this to unsatisfying. At this time I started full time as a sculptor and photographer. In 2007 after being excepted into the Art Move Chattanooga, moved to and set up a studio and home. Now working in large scale sculptures of mostly aluminum.
