 La Cuite
Artist Statement
Her artistic process is complex. Seeking for a link between matter and light, she is looking for a balance between painting and stained glass. Glass being more challenging as it imposes it’s law, it’s rigidity while white canvas offers flexibility and freedom. Painting is a way for Sophie to express herself freely and instinctively, while stained glass requires reflection and trials. The impatience of her creativity and excitement facing a table is opposing to time and order needed to achieve a stained glass window. Her whole approach is revolving around an unstable balance; She is trying to find opposites and reunite them spontaneously, in a reflected way, into a piece of art; going from hot to cold, from a curve to a straight line, from liquid to solid and from shadow to light. This is within this constant quest that she is shaping her paintings. Her Art ranges from naive to figurative and illustration. She tries to represent the duality that exists in all things. Nobody remains indifferent to her Arts. The simplicity of her subjects and the complex technique she uses will fascinate you.
Her preferred mediums are; acrylic, oil pastels, oil, wood pencil, new technologies and glass.
